Recording appears to work, but the resulting file has a length of zero You have selected a codec that is not supported by the container (for example, you tried to use the VP8 video codec with the MP4 container). ![]() This error indicates that ffmpeg/libav (the underlying video and audio encoding library) failed to initialize the output file. You don't have permission to write to the output directory. The output directory does not exist (i.e. This error indicates that the output file could not be created. For Ubuntu, this can be done by running: sudo apt-get install libavcodec-extra-53 libavformat-extra-53. Some distributions will omit codecs that have patent issues, but allow you to install them as a separate package. If that doesn't help, then the only solution is to switch to a different window manager, or use OpenGL recording. Uninstalling the driver for 2D acceleration ( xserver-xorg-video-intel, xf86-video-intel or similar). For Intel GPUs, the flickering can sometimes be eliminated by doing one of the following:Ĭhanging the acceleration method from SNA to UXA as described in this article or this video tutorial. Since this is a window manager flaw, other recording software is affected by this too. This is a known problem with some window managers, especially those based on Mutter (the GNOME 3 window manager) and Cinnamon, though other compositing window managers (e.g. The recording occasionally flickers, showing parts of the desktop background instead of windows On Ubuntu, this can be done by logging out, clicking the 'gear' icon on the login screen and selecting 'Ubuntu on Xorg', and logging back in. The solution is to switch back to the X11 display server. Since Wayland doesn't provide a standardized API for screen capturing, SSR can't support it (yet). Ubuntu 17.10) will by default use the Wayland display server. The recording is completely black (except for the cursor) No sound when recording the speakers with PulseAudio Slowed-down, out-of-sync audio when recording the speakers with PulseAudio OpenGL recording doesn't work: the application size is not recognized Weird glitches (horizontal lines, missing objects) when using the NVIDIA proprietary drivers To change the subject slightly from the post, Amazon in particular and the lack of good HD support in web browser streaming is one reason I don't really hold PlayOn's 720p against it.The recording is completely black (except for the cursor) I don't know for certain, but I suspect the improvement in PlayOn's record quality vis-à-vis frame rate differences is because it uses Nvidia or AMD recording hardware now (at least it can if you have it, it still works fine without it you just have to count on more CPU cycles being used, etc.) ![]() In fact, a couple of months ago I checked a PlayOn recording to see if they had started recording in proper 24fps because it was so smooth, etc. **BUT** even that isn't much of an issue I've noticed in later years as PlayOn's recording has improved to the point I can't really tell any difference. The main reason I like Audials when recording movies is because it records at the proper frame rate and doesn't record everything at 29.95fps like PlayOn. PlayOn always gives a 720p recording from Amazon (now I have a theory that PlayOn might be upscaling, but if it is it is doing an excellent job because I can't tell, lol). I keep and up-to-date copy of Audials and if I, say, by a movie through Amazon PPV, will use Audials to record it.however it's very hit or miss if Amazon will broadcast in HD when playing through a web browser I've noticed and 99.9% of the time my Audials recordings.while otherwise perfect.are limited to 960.x.XXX resolution (better than DVD, but not even 720p) IN THEORY you should be able to start a series playing with Audials recording and have it continue from one to the other, but more often than not the streaming sites will stop playing with a "are you still watching?" banner and Audials has no mechanism to deal with it since it's just a window recorder. While Audials works okay on Amazon and aces where Audials cue system can be can be hit or miss on anything else for anything but a one-off recording. ![]() Now of course you could say the same about PlayOn, I won't say I've never had PlayOn just stop working on a site, but with PlayOn it's the exception to the rule. I love being able to load up seasons conveniently from the PlayOn UI and not have to pick my way through various sites weird GUIs.Īudials is great when it works. I absolutely love PlayOn's "hands off" approach. ![]()
